Not the royal wedding

I am sitting at home in silence because I cannot stomach watching the royal wedding. I am impressed that a wedding of that size was brought together so quickly - a friend of mine has just announced a save the date for 5.5 years' time! so they can save and get organised - but apart from that, I don't care. I also dislike the amount of attention for what should be a family affair, and am astounded at the hype around it for two people who are already in love, living together occassionally, and so forth, formalising their arrangement. I also don't give two hoots about whether she'll be queen, queen mother, king's wife or whatever.

Why yes, repulican here how did you pick?

So to celebrate something far more interesting and important, here is my favourite photo from my wedding day. Self-portrait, at the end of our photo shoot, freezing our legs off by that stage and keen for a spa, some cake and champagne, and our holiday to begin!

We eloped. We had a lovely holiday. It was cold. My dress was orange, not red as the picture implies.

Our rings are titanium but TheHusband damaged his between pallets at work, so I want to replace that with a simpler one sometime soon.

Our wedding was just one day of our lives together. We're coming up to having had 6 lovely years together, 2 married, 5 homes, 1 child and lots of laughs.

I get a bit teary when I hear of Christchurch and the damage to it, as it's a special magical place in my memory. We are really wanting to go back there sometime soon!

So happy wedding day to all who've had one, all who plan one, and all who love them. I hope that any couple marrying today is as happy as we are.

Tuesday I've got Friday on my mind...

Things are going on in my life and I've been of two minds as to whether to post here or not. On one hand, this is a blog. It's public. It's read by who knows whom, and so forth. But on the other hand, I need to have somewhere to write about:
  • school
  • life
  • health
  • fitness
  • ttc
  • wedding, marriage, that kind of thing
  • moving house
  • cooking, crafting and creating
in a respectful-but-totally-me way. Mostly because otherwise I will be labelled as obsessed by friends and family, and mostly by ManFriend (soon to be TheHusband actually, with only 3 weeks to go, but I think I need another name for him on here) as I tend to get obsessed with the details of something, get to be an expert in it, then move on. No harm, no foul - I just like having knowledge!

So I will turn over a new leaf on here and post some Real stuff that is going on in my life. Not just the minutea that I tend to post about here.

So, here are some photos of me! I got a new dress and loves it. I struggled to take a photo of that at the time as I don't have a tripod, but this is the best shot so far:

I have a heap more photos on my camera of recent excitements so will get the off in a minute and upload them... bring on instant transfer, sortage, improvement, upload, tagging and presentation of photos!!

The BRAN idea - applied to a reallife situation even!

I like the BRAN idea - what are the: Benefits? Risks? Alternatives? what if we do Nothing? Let's pick something like, say, ttc later this year.

Benefits:
  • I'm 29 and ManFriend is nearly 30 so now's a good time, and a better time than the future physically and oocyte'ly.
  • We are about as Grown Up as we're going to get
  • We are smart and see that replacing ourselves with a person or two who is also smart and resourceful is a Good Idea.
  • Babies are cute and gorgeous and a source of love and fun. Toddlers are cute and squishable and fun. Kids are fabulous and individual. Teenagers are too.
  • We want kid(s) and it's something we want to do to complete our lives. We have talked about this.
Risks:
  • My physical fitness
  • Money
  • Conflicts between parenting and working/studying
  • Needing to move house to set up for a family
Alternatives
  • Waiting (not really an alternative as age will start to play a part in the risk profile of it, and we don't want to be too old to be having fun with kids!)
  • Adopting ($$$$$ and hard in Australia)
  • Fostering (hard and $$)
  • Not (not an option for us to consider - we both want to, a lot)
Not doing anything
  • Awwwwwwwwwww but we want to ;)
  • There are 7 years left before I hit what I think of as my deadline (35) so it's not that bad to do nothing
